Sri Lanka’s 37th Test tour

(February - March 2006)

First Test-playing tour of Bangladesh by Sri Lanka

   (no previous tour)

Following postponement of the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka Cricket asked the Bangladesh Board if they could bring their first tour of the newest member of the International Cricket Council forward by ten days and the BCB rearranged the schedule. There were complaints that for the first time a Test series in Bangladesh did not include a match in Dhaka.

The highlights of the series centred around Muralitharan who played in his 100th Test and captured his 600th Test wicket.  However, the younger players - Maharoof, Tharanga and Vandort - also showed their capabilities and promise for the future.

Mahela Jayawardene, leading the side in a Test series for the first time, safely saw Sri Lanka to victories by an eight-wicket margin at Chittagong and a ten-wicket margin at Bogra

Bangladesh continued its losing streak. The batsmen again disappointed the home supporters by getting out playing too many rash shots.
