The tour opener against New South Wales was cancelled nine days before the start of the tour to allow the players to participate in domestic matches rather than play against a weakened NSW side.

The team flew from Auckland Airport to Brisbane on 21 November 2011.  B-J Watling joined the tour later in order to play in the third round of Plunket Shield to give him maximum time playing as he would not feature against Australla  A.
