Unavailable:: Stephen Fleming had retired from Test cricket.

Tour Party Announced :  4 April 2008.

Fifteen names were announced with either Mark Gillespie or Michael Mason to be added. However, both of them and Grant Elliott were required for the first two tour matches, and then the choice was made to keep Mason in the squad, while the other two went home until the one-day series.

Flynn, O’Brien, Redmond and Southee were not centrally contracted players at the time of selection but were added to the list on 14 April

Not selected :  Matthew Bell,  Grant Elliott,  James Franklin,  Mathew Sinclair.

 

Limited overs squad announced: 4 April 2008.

Jesse Ryder withdrew on 27 May from the one-day team, failing to recover from severing his tendon, so Peter Fulton was retained for the whole tour

Stand-in captain, Jamie How, and many of the team arrived in London on the evening of 23 April 2008.

Five players were permitted to join the tour late from the Indian Premier League so Daniel Vettori. Brendon McCullum, Kyle Mills, Ross Taylor and Jacob Oram all missed the first two matches. Oram arrived on 28 April.  Vettori and McCullum left Delhi and arrived at Heathrow in the morning of 1 May. 

Scott Styris joined the tour party for the one-day series. He arrived with Mark Gillespie on x June.

Mark Gillespie and Grant Elliott were required for the first two matches until 30 April, when the IPL players arrived.

After the Test series Gillespie and Scott Styris were part of the chosen squad for the limited overs series, but Elliot was brought back, too, as cover for Jacob Oram.

Jesse Ryder withdrew from the one-day team because of a hand injury and Peter Fulton was retained in his place.

Chris Martin, Iain O’Brien and Aaron Redmond did not take part in the limited overs section of the tour and went home after the Test matches.
