Fifteen names were announced
with either Mark Gillespie or Michael Mason to be added. However, both of
them and Grant Elliott were required for the first two tour matches, and then
the choice was made to keep Mason in the squad, while the other two went home
until the one-day series.
Flynn, O’Brien, Redmond and Southee were not centrally contracted
players at the time of selection but were added to the list on 14 April

of 23 April 2008.
Five players were permitted
to join the tour late from the Indian Premier League so Daniel Vettori. Brendon
McCullum, Kyle Mills, Ross Taylor and Jacob Oram all missed the first two
matches. Oram arrived on 28 April.Vettori
and McCullum left Delhi
and arrived at Heathrow in the morning of 1 May.
Scott Styris joined the tour
party for the one-day series. He arrived with Mark Gillespie on x June.
